Letter #7 — Mentors

“The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.” – Psalm 119:130

“Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors.” – Psalm 119:24

05.22.12

To my Mentors,

Thank you for taking time from your busy lives to watch over, teach, and guide me. I have been blessed and honored with the privilege of meeting most of you through Project Appleseed. Some of you I met before I joined you as an instructor, others have come alongside me since then. A few of you I have met through other means and I am just as blessed and honored by the time you have put into my life as those that I’ve met through Project Appleseed. A few of the many things you have done for me are:
  • Taught me how to be a teacher
  • Taught me my heritage
  • To clear and call a line
  • Got me over the hump (by helping and pushing) of being scared out of my wits of public speaking. Yes, it is still hard, but you have made it bearable.
  • Taught me to break out of my comfort zone
  • Answered my many questions and pointing things out to me
  • Stayed up late to discuss problems and find solutions.
  • Given me advise
This list is nowhere near all that you have done. I want you to know that I really appreciate everything, both on the list and not, that you have done and continue to do for me. You have taught by explanation and by example. You are leaders. Thank you for your patience. Thank you for the time you have spent investing in my life. I hope that someday, I’ll be able to guide someone half as well as you have guided me. Thank you for not caring for me in only one way, but in many. Thank you for still being my mentors and not stopping once I know “enough”. There is no way for me to be able to explain in words what you each mean to me and how thankful I am.

With love and thankfulness,
Your Watching, Learning, and Blessed Understudy
